Week 5 Discussion Feedback

Module 29 Feedback- Local utility companies are prime examples of regulated (by price) natural monopolies. Florida Power and Light (FPL) is the only provider of electricity in my area. They have huge economies of scale which makes economic sense to only have one provider in the area. Waste Management is another local regulated natural monopoly in my area. Manatee Regional Water Supply Authority is another such example.

Module 30 Feedback- I used to work for the Sarasota Film Society on occasion. This is a non-profit theater. Burns Court Cinema in downtown Sarasota shows primarily independent and foreign films. The Lakewood Ranch Cinema is the other location which shows primarily mainstream films. It costs $50 a year for a duel (2 person) membership which means that you pay $5 a film instead of $8.00 (non-member price). It costs $30 a year for a single membership, and $20 a year for a student membership. There are only 3 prices, member ($5) or non-member ($8.00), and child price ($5.50). Senior citizens come in all the time asking if the theater offer a senior discount. Currently they do not offer a Senior discount. The majority of patrons at Burns Court Cinema are in fact Senior citizens. Members of the Film Society get free refills on popcorn.
