Performance Standard - Explain the need for the application of ethical decision making by leaders in private and public arenas.
As we begin this course, please keep in mind that the subject matter is dynamic. By this I mean that current information, paradigms, perceptions, and influences can and do change quite often. I would argue there is no "right or wrong" in how we feel about a subject, at least in this course, but a certain level of "appropriateness" is expected in our societal interactions. The important part of this course to remember is the application of information that we will review.
How we feel about a subject is nice. How and why we act about a subject is critical.
This course studies the role of ethics and ethical decision making in the workplace with an emphasis on the responsibilities of managers and leaders in Emergency Management. The previous sentence alludes to decision making in service to others. It includes responsibilities beyond one's own benefits and perhaps in conflict with personal feelings.
In this first written assignment we begin to explore the relationship of ethics and decision making. Please provide your thoughts to the following questions.
- Explain the need for the application of ethical decision making by leaders in private and public arenas. Why do we even have to be concerned about ethics in the workplace?
- How could personal and professional ethics conflict? Provide an example.
- Whose ethical standard(s) (review Chapters 1 & 2) should be used to lead an organization; the leaders, those the leaders serve, or other options? Why?
I suggest you hang on to this assignment to compare to your project assignment. Perhaps your understanding of your topic will change.
Please provide a title page with authors note and a resource page in addition to the content. Use current APA formatting. I am looking for quality, not quantity.
Of utmost importance in all assignments is your ability to support your point. This talent needs to be constantly practiced as you proceed through this course and your selected professions.
