Strategic Planning Project Instructions
For this course you will be required to produce a second project. The project consists of a 10 page paper written in APA format. Your paper is due at the end of week seven. Late submissions will not be accepted. This project counts as a significant portion of your final grade (40%). There are drop boxes for both grading purposes and for the validation of original work. Please be sure to submit to both the dropbox for grading and the Turnitin.
Using your agency's Strategic Plan or Master Plan, provide a summary of the plan that includes the following: 1) How does the plan compare to what you learned in this course?; 2) What are the strengths of your plan?; Why 3) Do you have recommendations for improvement? Why?; 4) How is the progress on this plan managed?; 5) What type of management tool(s) are used? How did it perform? 6) Were recommendations implemented after the plan was published? 7) If not, why not? 8) What is your general impression about the plan and your agency's ability to meet the goals and objectives? Why?; 9) Who (what positions were represented) participated in the strategic planning process (city staff, citizens, dept. staff, union, etc)?; 10) Did the governing body formally adopt the plan? If not, were they presented with the recommendations and goals?; 11) Do you think there is buy-in and commitment to the plan?; 12) What happens if the goals and objectives are not met? How is that handled? Do you believe it is appropriate or do you have a better suggestion?
If you are not affiliated with a public safety agency, you are free to use the plan for your facility (if available) or contact your local government agency such as the City or County Fire, EMS, or Police Department and ask for a copy of their plan and any recent updates, progress, tracking sheets, etc.
You will also see APA guide and an APA template. You will be graded on your APA writing style too. It is very important that you have the correct amount of content in your paper. The 10 page requirement does not include the title page or reference pages. The 10 pages of content, your scholarly research. Non-scholarly sources not acceptable. In APA guide you will see how to find scholarly sources. You will be graded on your source selection too.
Professional writing is extremely important in your college career and professional life. This is a chance to learn and excel in this area. College professors and employers look for individuals with professional writing skills.
Note: This project is due at the conclusion of week 7. All point values are in the syllabus.
You must submit once to the dropbox for grading purposes and once to the Turnitin Dropbox for validation of originality
The graded submission cannot be different than the submission submitted and approved for originality to the Turnitin dropbox! If papers are edited to pass the Turnitin originality review and the original assignment that did not pass is is submitted for a grade, the paper will be given a zero and a warning will be given to the student.
Any questions ask.
