Any other use or distribution is expressly forbidden and may result in the removal of the individual from the program.

Exam Policy: Exams are to be taken on the scheduled day and at the scheduled time. Should it be necessary to miss an exam, the student must contact the classroom faculty on the day of the exam to schedule a makeup exam. Failure to do so will result in a zero for the exam.

All exams are given at the beginning of the class for which they are scheduled. There will be a 5% penalty for exams not taken on the scheduled day and time. An alternate exam with more or less questions may be administered to anyone missing a scheduled exam. Missed exams not made up within three business days will be given a zero. Early exams are not available.

A student may appeal the 5% penalty by submitting a letter of appeal to the Nursing Department Chair listing the extenuating circumstances responsible for the absence on exam day. The Nursing Department Chair will determine whether or not the circumstances warrant removal of the penalty.

Grading Policy:   Six Exams -80% of final grade; Comprehensive Final Exam – 20% of final grade

There is a no rounding policy for exams.

Grading Scale: 94-100 = A; 87-93 = B; 80-86 = C; 73-79 = D; 72 and below = F

Advisement/Remediation : Students will be required to meet with their course faculty/learning specialist when an exam grade is less than 80%; After Exam 2, a student not averaging 80% will be placed on Academic Probation. Academic Probation remains in effect for the entire semester. Remediation must be completed within the specified timeframe.

During examinations, students may only bring number 2 pencils and one highlighter with them into the classroom. Nothing else may be brought into the classroom during examinations, including cell phones.

A Math Quiz will be administered with a 100% achievement required in order to successfully pass Nursing Process I. Three opportunities to achieve a 100% will be provided prior to the withdrawal date. Inability to achieve 100% will result in dismissal from Nursing Process I. Calculators are permitted.

Exam Review Policy: During the course of the semester, any exam may be reviewed individually by appointment up until the time of the next scheduled exam.

Course Assignments: The semester calendar for classroom content is available as the schedule of classes. It will be followed as closely as possible. However, due to the nature of the content being covered and student mastery expected, flexibility in time allotted to certain content is necessary.

Clinical: Attendance is expected at all clinical experiences in the program. Clinical experiences include scheduled time in the learning laboratory, on-campus clinical, simulation center activities, and the assigned clinical facility. It is expected that students will arrive at the clinical experience on time, be prepared to function as a professional nursing student, and leave at the appointed time. Clinical Competency: students are evaluated in the on-campus skills laboratory, simulation center and in the clinical area. Satisfactory completion of on-campus skills activities is required prior to the deadline dates identified. Nursing skills are evaluated according to identified critical requirements, and will be evaluated by written exam and demonstration. All skill evaluations will require a peer check off to be completed prior to faculty evaluation. If a skill is not passed at the initial evaluation, a retest opportunity will be provided. Refer to the ASN Student Handbook for nursing skill evaluation policies. Preparation for skills lab is required and will be evidenced by student demonstration. All laboratory objectives must be satisfactorily achieved to receive a passing grade in the course. Grading Scale: S=Satisfactory or U=Unsatisfactory.

Attire

Skills Lab: Students are required to wear a white professional laboratory jacket with slacks or dresses. Shorts are not acceptable attire to wear under the lab jacket.   Flip flops are not acceptable footwear.

Simulation Lab: The clinical uniform will be worn when attending the simulation lab.

Both classroom and clinical portions of the course must be completed satisfactorily to progress in the nursing program.

Attendance Policy: Tardiness and absences reflect poorly on a student’s commitment to the nursing profession. Attendance Policies:   It is expected that as a professional, students maintain the attendance policy set forth within the SCF College of Nursing. The following sets forth the consequences for tardiness and absences:

Tardiness: Three instances of tardiness (less than ten minutes each) in one semester is equal to one clinical absence.

Absences: Arriving to your clinical experience more than ten minutes late constitutes a clinical absence. Based on the clinical instructor’s discretion, the student may be allowed to participate in the clinical experience, but the absence will still accrue. One absence per semester is allowed in the clinical setting.

* A student will be placed on Clinical Attendance Probation after the first absence in the semester.

* A student will be withdrawn from the nursing program after the second absence in one semester.

* A student may be absent from one learning lab. If a student misses a second learning lab, the student will be withdrawn from the nursing program.

A student may appeal removal from the program based on attendance as set forth in the SCF ASN Nursing Program Handbook. Refer to the ASN Student Handbook for this Policy.

Email: Students are required to communicate with their instructor(s) using their official SCF email address.

Withdrawal Policy: In accordance with the State College of Florida policy as stated in the college catalog, a student may withdraw from any or all courses without the academic penalty of a "WF" grade by the withdrawal deadline as listed in the academic calendar, Catalog or on the SCF website. A student in an accelerated or short-term course may withdraw without the academic penalty of a "WF" grade any time before the withdrawal deadline specific for the course. When a "WF" is entered, it is recorded in the student's permanent record and calculated as an "F" in the grade point average. SCF encourages the student to discuss a withdrawal with the instructor prior to withdrawing. A student who withdraws from any or all courses can withdraw online. Students should consult with the Financial Aid Services office prior to any course withdrawal.

Course withdrawals, after the deadline for the term or accelerated or short term course as published in the academic calendar, will result in a grade of "WF" which is computed in the term and cumulative GPA. Appeal request forms, accompanied by an explanation and documentation detailing major extenuating and documented circumstances, should be directed to the Vice President of Academic Affairs, who has the final approval/disapproval authority. If the appeal is granted, the "WF" grade would be changed to a "W" without GPA consequences. Forms can be obtained from the respective campus advising centers.

Effective fall 1997, the state mandates a student will be permitted a maximum of three attempts per course. An "attempt" is defined as registration in a class after the end of the registration period.

A student must take responsibility for initiating the withdrawal procedure. If this procedure is not followed, a grade of "WF" may be recorded for the student and "F" calculated in the grade point average.

If a "WF" is entered, it will be recorded on the permanent record and calculated as "F" in the grade point average.

All withdrawal policy statements apply to part-time as well as full-time degree credit and developmental credit students.

In accordance with the State College of Florida policy as stated in the college catalog, students may withdraw from any course or all courses without academic penalty of a WF by the withdrawal deadline as listed in the State College of Florida academic calendar. This semester this date is November 1, 2015. The student must take responsibility for initiating the withdrawal procedure. Students are strongly encouraged to talk with their instructors first before taking any withdrawal action.

In addition, students should note that faculty may also withdraw students for violating policies, procedures, or conditions of the class, as outlined in individual class syllabi, and such action could affect financial aid eligibility.
