Before I became an educator, I was responsible for overseeing oceanographic tide gauges in remote locations such as the outer Aleutian Islands and training NOAA and NAVY personnel. I succeeded in this career because I was a very successful troubleshooter. When I began teaching, I reflected on my lessons and started troubleshooting why some of my students were not successfully learning. This ignited a passion to improve my instruction by developing instructional media and researching pedagogical implications of the instructional content.
